Obama Nominates Outspoken Abortion Supporter To Legal Post
By BRADLEY VASOLI, The Bulletin
President Barack Obama has nominated Dawn Johnson, a law professor with a record of vehement support for abortion, to become assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel.
Ms. Johnson teaches at the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University and once served as former President Bill Clinton’s acting attorney general. She has made a number of diehard comments on the abortion issue such as, “There is no ‘father’ and no ‘child’ – just a fetus.”
Her leftist views on the constitution are reflected in her work for the American Constitution Society (formed as a left-wing alternative to the center-right Federalist Society), the American Civil Liberties Union and NARAL Pro-Choice America.
She has also taken a number of positions against the previous administration’s foreign and defense policy, on such issues as interrogations and war powers.
