Dr. Michael Savage Cites The Bulletin In Thursday Opening Monologue

Thursday, November 05, 2009
The Bulletin was cited for praise during the opening monologue of the Thursday, October 29 edition of The Savage Nation. Dr. Michael Savage, host of the third-highest rated talk-radio program in the United States and the author of four bestsellers, mentioned the Bulletin in the context of commentary about ongoing failures of the press. Savage, while offering commentary, played a clip of Bulletin reporter Adam Taxin asking a question during a question-and-answer session at a luncheon featuring Brian Tierney, publisher of the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News, as well as of Mr. Tierney’s response.

A transcript, in relevant part, follows:

(44 seconds into the Opening Monologue: “… They just put forward a health reform bill, meaning socialized medicine, where they’re going to take frankly the best medical care system the world has ever seen and destroy it by mandating that the government control it. I mean, in plain English, if you like the post office, and you have never used Fedex, then you’re going to love Nancy Pelosi’s 1,990-page health plan.

And yet you believe them. The only difference between past administrations and this one is that they own the press to a 99th percentile. That’s the only difference. 99th percentile, they own it, they own the press.

I’m going to give you an example. There was a shootout today in Detroit. The leader of a mosque was killed in an F.B.I. raid. Have you read about that anywhere? Have you heard about that anywhere? Have you seen a picture of the so-called Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah, who G-d knows what his name was the day before.

Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah opened fired on the F.B.I., and they killed him. He was the leader of a black separatist Detroit mosque, a jailbird who converted to Islam in a prison, and he was killed during a series of F.B.I. raids. Have you heard about this? Have you read about this? Have you discussed this? Have you seen anybody talk about it? Why not? The same reason that I, Michael Savage, have been banned by a Western nation, and you don’t hear about it anywhere, because certain topics are not covered by the cowards and the leftists in the media. Here’s another example:

Here’s the reporter, Adam Taxin. He works for the Philadelphia Bulletin. There’s an open house, a town hall meeting with the Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News, where they’re trying to find out what the people think. You know, they figure they can boost readership by actually listening to people. So this reporter, Adam Taxin, goes up to the microphone, and he asks the CEO of the Philly Inquirer a question. Now listen to 7 and 8, listen carefully:

[Adam Taxin:] One story that has not received a lot of attention by the major media is the British Labour government’s decision to ban Michael Savage, the third-biggest talk radio host in the country, from entering their country. To me, this seems like a huge issue. Yet the major media – I mean, your paper is not the only one – has buried it. You wouldn’t even know about it if you only read the Inquirer or the Daily News. I’m just wondering if you could express yourself, like give your impressions, of free speech and how it’s threatened, in regard to this particular case, and what that means in terms for the freedom of the press?

[Brian Tierney:] I think our papers carried it pretty well. But I’ve always felt like, to be honest with you, if you really want to be an intelligent person, don’t consume one media product, OK? So read a diversity of different things and understand a lot of …

All right, shut that off, shut the blubbermouth off. He said nothing. He obfuscated his answer, and he said he didn’t cover the story, he thinks he covered the story, and tells him to listen to the [pause] So I don’t know who Adam Taxin is, but I want to thank you, Adam, if you listen to “The Savage Nation,” for having the guts to ask this fat slob, whoever he may be, why his stinking, failing rag wouldn’t cover one of the biggest stories in the decade, and getting the answer that you expected. Also, “Detroit Mosque Leader Killed In F.B.I. Raid,” you didn’t hear about that? Also, Nancy Pelosi bans the press from her reading of this 1900-page, Sopranos-like health care bill …”

Editor’s Note (1): Despite the response by Mr. Tierney, neither the Philadelphia Inquirer nor the Philadelphia Daily News has run a single story in any way related to the British Labor Government’s decision, disclosed in early May 2009, to ban American talk show host Dr. Michael Savage from physically entering the United Kingdom.

Editor’s Note (2): What Dr. Savage referred to as an “open house”/”town hall meeting” was actually a periodic luncheon in Center City sponsored by the Jewish Business Network, at which Mr. Tierney was the featured speaker.
