Mike Fitzpatrick, saying that he "cannot sit back any longer and watch what’s happening to our country," officially announced his candidacy for the 8th Congressional District in US Congress at a rally on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Neshaminy Middle School in Langhorne. Surrounded by his wife, Kathy, his children and parents, state senators, commissioners, supervisors, board members, and committee members, and hundreds of supporters and well-wishers chanting, “Run, Mike, Run!!,” Fitzpatrick said the words the cheering crowd was waiting to hear: “I am ready to step back into the arena and run for congress!”
Fitzpatrick, who held the office from 2004-06, will be running against incumbent Patrick Murphy (D-PA 8th). The 8th District encompasses Bucks County, a small part of Montgomery County which includes some districts of Abington, Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland, and two wards in Northeast Philadelphia.
