Excessive salt is as deadly as smoking, excessive cholesterol and obesity. Cutting dietary intake of salt could reduce new cases of annual heart diseases by 60,000 to 120,000, strokes by 32,000 to 66,000, and heart attacks by 54,000 to 99,000. That’s the conclusion of a study in The New England Journal of Medicine online edition of Jan. 20, 2010.
